This is a high effort filtering and encoding for Majutsushi Kunon wa Mieteiru.
The artstyle of this anime is easier to encode. Despite the filesize, the quality should have been good.

This anime has quite heavy halo, but other than that, it's quite nice.
As a start, we merge the OPs of all episodes using vsdenoise.frequency_merge.
And then we use vsdenoise.mc_degrain and vsdenoise.wnnm to denoise, and then we use vsdenoise.DFTTest guided dctf.DCTFilter to reduce the checkerboard dithering in the source.

We build a custom aa mask, and use vsaa.based_aa for a light aa.
And then we perform the main dehalo. We use vsdehalo.dehalo_alpha to dehalo, protected by a mask built with two layers of vsdehalo.fine_dehalo.mask and a character mask built with the character-segmentation model of vsmlrt, and then we apply the vsrgtools.bilateral based protection from sgt.
After that, we apply a light vsdeband.placebo_deband using vsdeband.pfdeband, and that concludes all of the filtering.

In encoding, we use the latest version of 5fish/SVT-AV1-PSY.

Additional improvements have been discovered in the encoder that helps with texture retention. Texture retention in episode 04 onwards should be even better than the compare above.

For filtering, the main episode is descalable. We descale the main episode using vsscale.Rescale, and then we write a custom akarin.Expr to carefully dampen the sharpness of the descaled image. Thanks to many people in the JET server such moe teaching me the method, we fully recover the layer of 1080p texture on top of the image after descale.
The OP and ED of this anime is not descalable. Instead we use a stronger vsTAAmbk.TAAmbk to deal with the OP, protected by a custom akarin.Expr taper. And we use vsaa.based_aa to perform aa on the ED.
Also, as usual, before the aa, OP from multiple episodes are merged using vsdenoise.frequency_merge.

For denoise, the main episode doesn't quite need a denoise at all. Instead we only use dctf.DCTFilter to clean up some slightly annoying checkerboard in the source.
For OP and ED, we use the typical vsdenoise.mc_degrain → vsdenoise.bm3d → vsdenoise.nl_means to stabilise dynamic noise.
At last we apply a very conservative dose of vsdenoise.DFTTest before sending to the encoder.

The source is actually quite nice for this anime: a heavy layer of static grain or texture, next to no banding. Lineart is good as well, apart from some light halo.
For filtering, we first lehmer merge all available CR sources for each episode together using vsdenoise.frequency_merge. For OP, we lehmer merge all episodes together.
After merging, we apply a protective denoise to remove the thin layer of dynamic noise on top using vsdenoise.DFTTest and vsdenoise.mc_degrain, protected by dctf.DCTFilter and a character mask via vs-mlrt's anime-segmentation model.
At last we perform a light dehalo using vsdehalo.dehalo_alpha, protected by the character mask, vsdehalo.fine_dehalo.mask, and a vsrgtools.bilateral based protection from sgt.

For encoding, we use lastest version of 5fish/SVT-AV1-PSY. We use --tune 0 and we use a mixture of --preset 0 and --preset 2 for this encode.
For bitrate allocation, we use Progression Boost's Preset-Basic-Character-Boost for boosting. On the encoder side, we use --balancing-q-bias 1 --variance-boost-strength 1 --variance-octile 6, and especially --noise-level-thr 16000 --noise-level-q-bias 0.06 to control filesize.
